While the rain brought much-needed relief from the heat for Delhiites, it also caused significant disruption at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Here’s all you need to know about this incident.

Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Damage 3 Air India Aircraft At Delhi Airport

According to The Times of India, the incident occurred amid adverse weather conditions that swept through the capital on Sunday. Strong gusts of wind reportedly sent a ground support stepladder rolling across the tarmac, causing it to collide with parked Air India aircraft at Delhi Airport.

A video circulating online shows a stepladder, used for aircraft boarding and deboarding of passengers, rolling across the tarmac due to strong, gusting winds. The affected Air India aircraft were parked at Bay 206 when ground staff rushed to stop the runaway equipment. However, the stepladder struck three parked aircraft, causing damage and forcing them out of service.

All About The Incident

As per India Today, Air India has not issued a statement on the incident at the Delhi Airport yet. However, airport authorities have said that aircraft belonging to other airlines were also affected by the sudden change in weather conditions. The report further states that of the three impacted Air India aircraft, two are expected to return to service soon. However, the third one might take longer to be repaired.

As of now, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a probe in this matter to determine responsibility for the collision.
