Tara Sutaria recently took us somewhere very different from the world of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. The actor, who was seen alongside Yash in the action drama, appeared on the latest episode of Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani and picked Gallops at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse for the food-filled outing.
Tara Sutaria Talks About Parsi Food On Sunday Brunch
Gallops has been around since the 1980s and is something of a Mumbai institution, sitting right inside the racecourse. Tara Sutaria’s table was packed with food she loves, but the nihari ended up stealing the show. And honestly, that feels like a fairly safe choice. Rich, slow-cooked, and oh-so-heavy, nihari is exactly the sort of dish that doesn’t need to convince anyone it is delicious. But Tara Sutaria had something much more unexpected to say about the food she grew up around.
Talking about Parsi food, she admitted that Parsis have some “weird” food combinations. One she brought up was masoor chicken, essentially chicken cooked with masoor dal. It sounds unusual if you’re used to thinking of dal and meat as two separate things, but that sweet-savoury-meaty interplay is very much at home in Parsi cooking.

Tara Sutaria’s Love For Fried Eggs, Jam And Toast
Then came the combination that genuinely made us pause: fried eggs with jam and toast. Kamiya Jani, our Editor-in-Chief, asked Tara Sutaria about a food combination she loves even though it makes absolutely no sense to other people. Her answer was this breakfast.
Fried eggs, toast, jam. Yes, all of it together. The first reaction is probably the same for most people: Are we sure? Jam belongs on toast, and eggs belong beside toast. Why, then, should the two ever meet?
Tara Sutaria, however, was having none of that logic. According to her, once everything is on the plate, it simply works. The toast gives you the buttery, crisp base, the fried egg brings the richness and savouriness, and the jam cuts through it with sweetness. It sounds like chaos described verbally; apparently, it tastes like comfort when you’re actually eating it.

And she isn’t inventing the combination out of thin air. Parsi households have long had breakfasts where eggs, bread, butter and jam share the same table, so the sweet-and-savoury pairing isn’t quite the culinary crime it first appears to be.
