The city was recognised for its familiar dishes like dosas, filter coffee, sambar, rasam and Karnataka staples. Bengaluru Earns A Spot On World’s Best Cities For Food List
Bengaluru is not just known for its IT sector but also for its amazing culinary scene. And now, a list by Time Out magazine proves that. Bengaluru was the only Indian city to rank 13th on the global list of the 20 World’s Best Food Cities. Thanks to its food scene, the city managed to earn global recognition.
The list by Time Out magazine was based on the personal opinions of thousands of locals on where they actually love to eat, drink and obsess over dinner reservations. The cities were ranked across 18 different criteria, including affordability, diversity and, of course, quality.

Donne Biryani, Benne Dosas & Tiffin Rooms Win Hearts
First on the list was Lima in Peru, which is quite popular for its stuffed rocoto peppers and maize stews. Bengaluru ranked 13th for its comfort food, such as dosas, filter coffee and Donne Biryani, which is one of the city’s proudest inventions. Time Out also spotlighted the old and iconic tiffin rooms in the city, such as Vidyarthi Bhavan for its buttery Benne dosas, CTR and Brahmin’s Coffee Bar for their fluffy idlis, crispy vadas and coconut chutney.
A special mention was given to Donne Biryani, which is served in a dried palm-leaf bowl and is fragrant with spices and ghee. According to Time Out magazine, 82% of locals rated Bengaluru’s dining scene as ‘good’ or ‘amazing’. And yes, it is not even surprising.
