We have some good news for Indian travellers going to Malaysia. Indians can now make payments using UPI in Malaysia, just like they do in India. This move will make spending in Malaysia much easier and hassle-free for tourists. Here’s everything you need to know about this new change.
Indians Can Now Pay Via UPI In Malaysia

In a recent development, Razorpay has announced a major change for Indians. Through Curlec, the company has partnered with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India. The agreement was formalised during the Global Fintech Fest 2025 and marks a big milestone for India’s digital payment system abroad, reported NDTV.
With this new integration, millions of Indian tourists visiting Malaysia will be able to make instant and secure payments to local businesses. They can use their preferred UPI apps without needing international cards or worrying about currency exchange. This is expected to make travel smoother and more convenient.
How This Move Is A Win-Win For Indians And Malaysians
The demand for easy digital payments has grown with the rise in Indian visitors to Malaysia. UPI, India’s real-time payment system, has already transformed how Indians pay. In September 2025 alone, it processed nearly 20 billion transactions. The system is known for its speed, security, and reliability. Now, Malaysian merchants can also benefit from this system by accepting UPI payments through Razorpay Curlec’s platform.
According to NDTV, under this arrangement, payments made by Indian tourists will be settled in Malaysia’s local currency, the ringgit (RM). This setup helps both sides. Indian users can pay instantly in their usual way, and Malaysian businesses can easily receive payments without handling foreign exchange.
While talking to NDTV, Shashank Kumar, Managing Director and Co-founder of Razorpay, said that UPI has completely changed how India pays. It has combined innovation and inclusion. He added that through Curlec, Razorpay is bringing the same experience to Malaysia to help both travellers and businesses enjoy simple and fast transactions.
