Extreme weather conditions are always a disaster. They disrupt daily life, leave people stranded, and some even lose their lives. Now northern India is facing a similar situation, as it is experiencing sudden storms, heavy rain, dust, and strong winds. Several districts in Uttar Pradesh were hit badly on Wednesday evening. Uttar Pradesh Hit By Severe Storm

On Wednesday evening, Uttar Pradesh was hit by a severe storm and, as per officials, around 89 people have died. As per India Today, the death toll, which was previously 27, quickly rose to 89 as several reports came in from different areas. According to authorities, at least 53 people have been injured, and rescue and assessment work is still ongoing.

The district that was hit the hardest is Prayagraj. More than 21 people lost their lives there. Other major casualties were reported from Sant Ravidas Nagar with 14 deaths, Fatehpur with 11 deaths, and Mirzapur with 10 deaths. Officials also reported six deaths in Unnao and five in Budaun. 

Four deaths each were recorded in Bareilly and Pratapgarh. Two deaths each were reported from Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Sonbhadra and Sambhal. Three deaths were also confirmed in Sitapur, while one death each was reported from Basti, Rae Bareilly and Shahjahanpur.

What Happened In Prayagraj?

In Prayagraj, the storm uprooted trees and damaged houses, roads, and public property. As per India Today, officials said seven people lost their lives in Handia, four in Phulpur, three in Soraon, and two in Meja. Many roads were blocked because of fallen trees, which also affected traffic movement. Several areas also faced power cuts and communication network issues.

In the Triveni Sangam area, the storm destroyed temporary huts made for priests. Strong winds also blew away tin sheds, solar panels, and weak structures. Whereas in Budaun, two young girls died after a wall collapsed on them. A woman also lost her life when a tree fell on a tubewell room. Another man died after a tree fell on his vehicle, while a young man lost his life while delivering food during the storm.

Rescue teams are working constantly. They are clearing roads, restoring electricity, and repairing communication lines.
