Delhiites, did you know that the names of three metro stations have now been officially renamed? Yes, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that three metro stations in Pitampura have new names. But you must be curious to know why this decision was taken, right? Here’s what we know about this latest development.

Three Metro Stations In Delhi Get New Names

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has made an important announcement for people in Delhi. The names of three metro stations in Pitampura have now changed. The reason:  to enhance passenger convenience and define local identity. The announcement was made during the Shresth Bharat Sampark Yatra in Haiderpur village.

According to a report by The Times of India, these are the new names of the three metro stations that have been renamed.

  • Pitampura Metro Station on the Red Line will now be known as Madhuban Chowk Metro Station
  • The under-construction North Pitampura Station in QU Block will now be known as North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar Metro Station.
  • The proposed Pitampura North Metro Station will be named Haiderpur Village Metro Station.

You should also know that Pitampura Metro Station (now Madhuban Chowk) will become an interchange station after the RK Puram-Janakpuri corridor of the Magenta Line under Phase IV becomes operational. The other two stations are also part of the RK Puram-Janakpuri corridor, which is expected to become operational next year.

DMRC’s Phase IV Expansion Is Underway

According to a report by The Times of India, DMRC is also working on the construction of about 112 kilometres of new metro lines. These new lines under the Phase IV expansion aim to enhance passenger convenience. Of these, the construction of two corridors is underway. These are the RK Ashram Marg-Janakpuri West corridor and the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor (Golden Line). Reportedly, three corridors were approved last year and are now in their pre-construction stage.

You should also know that changing the names of Delhi Metro stations is not new. As per a report by Hindustan Times, in July 2023, the HUDA City Centre Metro Station was renamed Millennium City Centre.
