By cycling a distance of 3800 kilometres in 9 days from India’s west to east, Lieutenant Colonel Bharat Pannu has entered the Guinness World Record. Lt. Col Pannu covered the stretch in the fastest possible time on a bicycle. The expedition started from Gujarat’s Koteshwar on October 17, 2021. It ended in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kibithu on October 26. He travelled through Jaipur, Agra, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Siliguri and Tezpur before completing the journey.

The Event Was Organised To Mark The Swarnim Vijay Varsh
Lt. Col Pannu broke the record of Naresh Kumar, who had previously covered the stretch in 11 days and 21 hours on a bicycle. Defying the challenges of plaguy traffic, heavy rains and hot temperatures, Lt. Col Pannu completed the journey. Lt. Col Pannu was accompanied by a bike mechanic, a dietician and a physiotherapist. The event was organised to mark the Swarnim Vijay Varsh or Swarnim Jayanti. Swarnim Vijay Varsh commemorates the victory against Pakistan in the 1971 war to liberate Bangladesh. This is the 50th year of the victory.

Army Officer Creates Record For Fastest Cycling From Leh To Manali
To commemorate the Swarnim Vijay Varsh, another Indian army officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sripada also cycled 472 kilometres from Leh to Manali in 34 hours and 54 minutes. He entered the world record for the fastest solo cycling (men). Lt. Col Sripada crossed five passes and battled harsh weather conditions to complete his journey. Also, Sports Rehab specialist, Dr. Mustafa Topiwala had become India’s first physiotherapist to cycle from India Gate, Delhi to Gateway of India, Mumbai.
