India’s passport has significantly improved in the most recent Henley Passport Index, moving up five positions from 2022 to take up position 80 internationally. 57 countries are now visa-free for those with Indian passports, with the option of obtaining a visa upon arrival in a number of them, including Indonesia, Thailand, Rwanda, Jamaica, and Sri Lanka.

Despite the progress, Indian nationals still need a visa to enter 177 nations, including well-known ones like China, Japan, Russia, the United States, and several states in the European Union. India is currently ranked alongside countries like Togo and Senegal.

India’s continuous attempts to improve diplomatic connections and make it easier for its citizens to travel internationally are reflected in this increased mobility. Indian travellers can anticipate discovering more places with ease as new developments are possible.
