All of us are well aware of car insurance, gadget insurance, and policies of different such insurances. Well, there are facilities for travel insurance as well. And now the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) made the announcement of a new default option that lets passengers buy insurance coverage at a very small amount. Read on to know all about the new initiation of IRCTC.

About 15 lakh passengers use the IRCTC platform to book their train tickets. And now all these passengers get the opportunity to get insurance of ₹10 lakh if they face any unfortunate experiences while travelling. This huge amount of insurance will only require a payment of 35 paise. The advantages and necessity of such insurance are crucial. IRCTC planned to introduce this default option at such a small price so that more people find interest in this.

Usually, online platforms give Internet users options of both ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ while submitting any responses but the scenario is exactly the opposite when booking train tickets from the IRCTC website. If you are booking tickets, you will notice only one default response when it comes to whether someone wishes to purchase the travel insurance and the option is ‘Yes’Some sources have shared that platforms cannot offer any default insurance according to the guidelines of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India, as reported by Times Applaud. But IRCTC has received this special permission to add the default option.

  • ₹10 lakh for unfortunate deaths in accidents or any permanent disability
  • ₹7.5 lakh covering any partly permanent disability
  • ₹2 lakh covering the costs of hospitals for any injury
  • ₹10,000 for transporting the mortal remains

Steps To Claim This Policy:

  • In order to claim it, the insured passenger needs to update all the details of their nominee.
  • The details of the incident and claim need to be submitted to the closest office of the insurance company if someone wants to get the benefits.
  • This needs to be submitted within 4 months of the incident.
  • In a situation where there is no nominee or the insured person is disabled or dead, the company will give the claim to the insured person’s heir, executor, or duly appointed legal representative.
