Italy has finally launched its Digital Nomad Visa programme for non-EU residents. This programme will allow remote workers the opportunity to live, work, and explore this beautiful European nation. Self-employed remote workers as well as those employed by a company outside of Italy can apply for this programme. It is valid for up to a year and can be renewed.

This programme aims to attract tourists to Italy and boost their economy by offering them work-life balance and an opportunity to live and work in this beautiful country. Effective as of April 4, Italy has joined the list of growing European countries offering similar digital nomad visas. Some of these countries include Cyprus, Czechia, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Malta, Romania, the Netherlands, and Norway.

Furthermore, they should also have either a college degree or professional license and demonstrate six months of relevant work experience. The applicants will have to show proof of accommodation as well as have health insurance for the duration of their stay.

To apply for this visa, you will have to apply and book an appointment at the Italian consulate in your country. There you’ll need documents like a passport, proof of employment, proof of income, proof of accommodation, health insurance, and a criminal record certificate to apply for this visa. For self-employed personnel, they will have to apply for an Italian VAT number. Once successful, the visa holders will have eight days after arrival to get a residence permit.
