Japan Airlines To Increase Flight Services On Tokyo-Bengaluru Route From October Amid Rising Demand

Japan Airlines is all set to enhance air connectivity from Bengaluru in late October to cater to the rising demand. The airline announced that they will operate five flights per week on the Tokyo-Bengaluru route soon. This is good news for travellers because the Bengaluru Airport is the sole airport in Southern India that offers direct flights to Japan with Japan Airlines.

To accommodate rising demand and to boost connectivity between Tokyo and Bengaluru, Japan Airlines (JAL) has decided to expand operations at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. From October end, the airline will operate five flights per week from the Bengaluru Airport. They currently operate three flights per week on the Tokyo-Bengaluru route.

This move comes amid rising passenger traffic between Bengaluru and Japan. Since the Bengaluru Airport is the only airport in South India offering a direct connection to Japan, this expansion of operations is quite crucial. The airline operates its Boeing B787-8 aircraft on this route. The aircraft has the capacity to ferry 186 passengers in a two-class configuration.

Talking about this expansion, Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer of Bangalore International Airport Ltd, said, “We are delighted that JAL Group has chosen to expand its operations at BLR Airport, further solidifying our airport’s reputation as South/Central India’s leading international gateway. This strategic decision not only enhances passenger convenience and boosts regional economic growth but also strengthens our commitment to connecting Bengaluru to major global centres of commerce and tourism. As we continue to expand our operations, we remain dedicated to delivering exceptional travel experiences and setting new benchmarks in connectivity.”

Japan Airlines’ decision to expand its operations in Bengaluru comes in response to growing demand in the region. Therefore, to enhance passenger convenience and support regional economic growth, they have decided to increase their flight operations from the current three flights per week to five from October end.

JAL began its operations from the Bengaluru Airport on April 12, 2020. Since then, the passenger traffic between Bengaluru and Japan has grown remarkably. From 23,532 passengers in 2022 to 62,959 passengers in 2023, Japan Airlines saw a significant 167.55% increase on this route. This growth reflects the strong demand driven by tourism and business between South India and Japan.
