Japan has been put on high alert as Typhoon Shanshan is moving towards the southern Amami archipelago. Southern Japan is anticipating a powerful storm with torrential rainfall and powerful winds at a speed of 216 km/h. The severe weather conditions have also resulted in major travel disruptions with several flight cancellations, and local train and bullet train suspensions in many areas.

Japan On High Alert As Typhoon Shanshan Moves Closer

Japan is bracing for Typhoon Shanshan in its southern region. As per The Times of India report, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued warnings of severe weather conditions as the typhoon approaches the southern coast of the country around the Amami archipelago. It is expected to bring torrential rainfall and strong winds with speeds as high as 216 km/h.

As per reports, Typhoon Shanshan is expected to make landfall on Japan’s southwestern Kyushu Island in the next few days. The JMA is also expected to issue a warning for severe weather in the Kagoshima prefecture as well.

According to JMA’s forecast, Typhoon Shanshan is expected to advance toward Japan’s central and eastern regions, including Tokyo, by this weekend. Seeing the high-intensity typhoon, the Japanese authorities have requested the residents and tourists to take necessary precautions and keep themselves updated.

Flights Cancelled, Bullet Train Services Suspended

In response to the upcoming Typhoon Shanshan, several airlines like All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines have cancelled several of their domestic flights. According to The Times of India, ANA cancelled 110 domestic flights scheduled for Wednesday. This affected more than 4,000 passengers. Similarly, Japan Airlines has announced the cancellation of 80 domestic flights from Wednesday to Friday.

Besides air travel, local trains and bullet train services have also been disrupted because of the upcoming storm. Several Shinkansen bullet train services in the region have been cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday. Japan Railway has also announced that services may be suspended in Kyushu, Japan’s main southern island, as well as the main island of Honshu between Wednesday and Sunday.
