J&K To Host First Bird Festival To Promote Sustainable Eco-Tourism

Abundant greenery, scenic rivers and mountainous landscapes are where the birds settle. And no place is more green than Jammu and Kashmir, where a few spots are a bird watcher’s delight. The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department has announced the state’s first-ever bird festival to promote sustainable eco-tourism. Reportedly, the bird festival will take place at Pahalgam and Dachigam and will collaborate between the tourism department, Forests and Wildlife Departments, and Sanctuary Nature Foundation, a Mumbai-based organisation.

Kashmir Is One Of The Best Sites For Bird Watching

Dal Lake is one of the important spots in the city that attracts a large number of migratory birds, especially during the winter seasons. In addition, Dachigam National Park, Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve, the Kashmir Wetlands, and Tso Morari Lake in Ladakh have w wide variety of birds visiting these places. Other areas like Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg are also a few places best for watching birds. You’ll find all kinds of bird species in Jammu and Kashmir, from migratory birds to endangered bird species like the Black-necked crane, Bar Headed Geese and many more.
