The first Karnataka Floating Bridge was destroyed because of the massive waves only two days after being officially open to the public. The district administration says the Malpe beach bridge, inaugurated by MLA K Raghupathi Bhat on May 6, was shattered on May 8. However, Sudesh Shetty, the Malpe beach leaseholder and operator of Dial Mantra, denied the Karnatka floating bridge claims. He said that authorities had disengaged the locks of the bridge to prevent damage to the bridge.
