Kashmir, the winter wonderland of India is on the bucket list of not only travellers from around the world but Indians as well. So, it comes as no surprise that it has topped the Google list of ‘most searched vacation destinations in India’ for 2019.

Google has revealed its ‘Year In Search’ list for 2019, among which, one of the categories was most searched vacation destinations in India. While Kashmir from North topped the list, Shillong in the Eastern part of the country bagged the second spot. It was followed by Munnar in South.

Some of the other popular destinations that travellers are searching for to travel within the country are Auli, Spiti Valley, Cherrapunji, Kinnaur, Tirthan valley and New Delhi.
Why Kashmir?
Despite witnessing ’87% dip in tourist flow this year’, Kashmir still continued to be searched for the most on the internet. Also due to the advisories issued, and various conflicts with respect to article 370 and attack in Awantipora, there has been ’81% decline in the number of foreign tourists visiting Kashmir’.
However, the state is still constantly being enquired about by travellers. It was reported that as per the Kashmir Tourist Alliance that mostly people enquire about tourism packages for the winter season. In fact, Gulmarg, which is a popular spot for adventure travel enthusiasts, gets ’95% booked during the winter season.’ Located in the Baramullah district, Gulmarg is a hub for those who love to ski, till about February.
