According to an article that was recently published by the Lokmat Times, this robust performance was attributed to increased export volumes and currency stability. The Kenyan shilling maintained an average exchange rate of 129 against the US dollar.

The monthly average earnings were ₹16.6 billion from tea exports, and the TBK said that 2024’s total earnings exceeded 2023’s ₹116 billion. Tea production also witnessed a 7 per cent increase during this period, benefiting from favourable weather conditions.

The primary export destinations remained consistent, with Pakistan, Egypt, the UAE, Russia and Sudan leading the demand. In a strategic move to expand its market presence in Asia, Kenya has established a tea trade centre in China’s Fujian Province.

It accounts for 39.6 per cent of total export earnings, despite experiencing a 5.2 per cent decline due to reduced exports to several African nations. Asian markets showed significant growth, with exports reaching 79.3 billion Kenyan shillings (₹51 billion), driven by increased jet fuel re-exports to the UAE and pigeon pea exports to India.
