A massive fireworks accident near Kerala’s Anjoottambalam Veerar Kavu Temple injured more than 150 people on Monday night. The accident happened in Neeleswaram during a temple festival. As per the latest report, 8 people were critically injured and were rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate medical assistance.

Fireworks Accident Near Kerala Temple Injure Over 150 People

About 154 people were injured after firecrackers stored near the Anjoottambalam Veerar Kavu Temple in Kerala exploded during the intervening hours of Monday and Tuesday. According to Hindustan Times, the incident took place when a fireworks storage facility near the temple caught fire.

The accident took place when people gathered in the temple in Neeleswaram in Kerala to partake in a temple festival – Moolamkuzhi Chamundi Theyyam festival. While the cause of the fire is still unknown, locals suspect that the firecrackers stored in the facility were part of the Kaliyattu festival. Authorities are now probing the matter to know more about this fireworks accident in Kerala.

As per eyewitnesses, the incident took place during a fireworks display at the festival. A video surfacing on X (formerly Twitter) shows people gathered to watch the fireworks when the explosion suddenly occurred. It is suspected that a misfired cracker struck a building storing explosives that ignited a large fire.

Injured Taken To Hospitals In Kasargod, Kannur & Mangaluru

Reportedly, 154 people have been injured due to the accident near the Kerala temple. Out of them, 8 were seriously injured during the entire ordeal. All injured people were taken to hospitals in Kasargod, Kannur, and Mangaluru for medical assistance.

According to the Deccan Herald, district collector Inbasekhar K has mentioned that the firecrackers were stored without permission and safety norms at the Kerala temple. He also highlighted that the temple authorities did not maintain an adequate distance between the crackers storage room and the place where the crackers were bursting.
