You must be aware of how prestigious the Michelin star is. When a restaurant receives one star, it means that it is ‘high-quality cooking, a must-visit restaurant. It is a moment of pride and happiness for any restaurant to receive it. Recently, New York City’s South Indian restaurant, Semma, earned its first Michelin star.
New York’s Semma Serves Southern Flavours
Michelin’s guide to New York City this year has awarded 17 restaurants with their first Michelin star. New York’s Semma is one of those restaurants. Semma is a beautiful restaurant on New York’s Greenwich Avenue. The restaurant which launched in October last year has been serving lip-smacking South Indian cuisine.
The team of Unapologetic Foods with Chef Vijay Kumar has set out on a journey that aims to tell southern India’s story to everyone. The menu curated by the team with influences from the Chef’s rural background has dishes which might not be found even in India.

A Reflection Of Forgotten India
The dishes speak about the forgotten story of India in the most unapologetic manner. They are a reflection of the chef’s childhood memories. The menu is filled with South Indian dishes, especially from Tamil Nadu, which is Chef Vijay Kumar’s hometown. All the dishes on the menu offer the most authentic taste and a slice of southern India with every bite.
The spices are all imported via vendors in India and the ingredients are all sustainable. The Michelin star is a milestone in their journey and has motivated them to bring people closer to their ancestral home. The best part about the restaurant is that the dishes here are absolutely authentic.
Congratulations to the whole team!
