What’s Koraput Parab Festival All About?

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Parab festival was first celebrated in 1996 with a telos to preserve and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the tribal region to India and the world. A special focus on tourism was laid. The annual cultural extravaganza of Parab this year once again lays the spotlight on local talent and gives them a chance to shine and how!

Abddal M Akhtar, Koraput District Collector revealed to Hindustan Times that the festival aims to both protect and promote Koraput’s rich cultural heritage. Furthermore, he says that they are confident that this year’s Parab will be a special one due to its high participation rate and its vibrancy.

The festival organisers believe that Parab has the potential to woe tourists all the way to Koraput and its tourist spots like Gupteswar cave, currently developed in anticipation of high arrivals. Parab festival commenced on a high note with the first ritual at the Maa Bhairabi temple in Borigumma. The community, dressed in their finest traditional attire danced their hearts out to the rhythmic beats of the drum, eagerly awaiting the days to come.

Abddal M Akhtar declared the inaugural ceremony as a hit to Hindustan Times. With the participation of 10,000 people, organisers expect the final celebration will bring in more tourists, vibrancy and charm to the cultural festivities.

What’s To Look Forward To This Year?

If you’re wondering what’s special about Koraput’s Parab festival this year, then let’s tell you more about it. The focus of this year’s festival is all on providing locals with a platform to showcase their hidden talents and skills. Mark November 24 on your calendars as the festival will have competitions at panchayat, block and district levels. Dance, music and handicraft competitions will be held.

On November 25,  you can head to Pallishree Mela, a five-day carnival where you can interact with local artisans and purchase handicrafts of the highest quality. A month later, on December 25 and 27, final mega festivals shall take place at the Government college ground in the vicinity.  Parab 2023 has tribal dances, and folk music featuring traditional instruments, sports competitions, trekking and even mini-marathons. It’s an exciting cultural extravaganza that takes you to the heartland of India. It’s a festival and culture which is deep-rooted in a mission to elevate and empower the lives of tribals.
