Kullu Dussehra 2024 is set to bring vibrant energy to the serene Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh from 13 to 19 October. This iconic festival is a grand celebration of devotion, tradition, and culture. For centuries, it has drawn visitors from far and wide, creating a sense of unity among the local community and tourists alike.
The festival honours Lord Raghunath Ji, who has been the central deity since the 17th century. It all began when Raja Jagat Singh brought the idol of Lord Raghunath Ji to Kullu. Since then, the festival has grown in significance, with over 300 local deities from surrounding villages joining the celebrations. These deities are carried in beautifully adorned palanquins, accompanied by lively processions of music, dance, and devotion, making their way to Dhalpur Maidan in Kullu.
The 2024 edition of Kullu Dussehra promises a spectacular array of events. The festivities will kick off with the grand Rath Yatra on 13 October, where Lord Raghunath Ji is placed in a chariot and pulled through the streets. Devotees from across the region come together to participate in this religious procession, which symbolises unity and faith. The streets of Kullu will come alive with the sounds of traditional Himachali instruments, bright flags, and joyful crowds.

Kullu Dussehra is not just a religious festival; it is also a celebration of art and culture. Each evening, the open-air auditorium at Lal Chand Prarthi Kalakendra will host performances by local, national, and international artists. Traditional Himachali folk dances, such as the famous Nati, will be featured alongside contemporary performances. With 15 international cultural troupes participating this year, the festival will offer a unique blend of global and local art, highlighting the universal language of culture.
A key highlight of the week is the Cultural Parade, scheduled for 14th October. This parade showcases traditional attire, music, and dance from across India and the world. It’s a vivid display of the festival’s inclusive spirit, celebrating diversity while honouring Kullu’s rich heritage.
