If you are not aware of the updates about the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, this crucial road was reopened for vehicular movement just a few days ago. The strategic road was initially closed to any kind of traffic because of snowfall in places located in higher reaches, landslides, extreme weather, and adverse conditions. After a long pause of regular operations, the highway has finally been reopened allowing traffic to transport.

As the road was closed for so many days, it caused a major problem for the transportation of essential food items used on an everyday basis such as butter, vegetables, and more. According to a report by Daily Excelsior, the highway closure has created a shortage of all these regularly needed products in Leh. Ladakh Buddhist Association’s general secretary, Dr. Ishey Namgyal stated how Leh does not have enough amount of vegetables, milk, and butter at the moment. Many places such as Changthang, Nubra, Kargil districts, and more are also facing the problems of the shortage of necessities.

Without any doubt, the residents in the affected areas are dealing with the shortage. In fact, travellers who recently visited Leh are facing some issues with not getting enough necessary items. Most of these daily-use products are transported to Leh from different parts of India such as Jammu, Srinagar, and more. And for the smooth movement of these commodities, the highway plays an integral role.

Dr. Ishey Namgyal suggested the authorities reopen the road for regular traffic movement only when it continues operations for a long time and not just a few days.
