Schengen Visa is a short-term visa available to non-EU citizens that lasts for up to 90 days. They apply to citizens from countries like South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, China, and Pakistan. Now, as per the latest reports, it looks like these visas are going to get even more expensive. The European Commission has recently proposed to increase the basic fee for a Schengen Visa. This will be applicable for both adult and children visas.

As per the proposal, the price surge will be about 12.5%. So, the adult visa which currently costs around €80, will soon cost €90. For the children, the basic fee hike will take the current €40 visa to reach €45. The fee for a Schengen visa extension, however, is still fixed at €30, as before.

Now, coming to the big question – what led to this surge? As per the reports submitted by the European Commission, the biggest reason is the rising inflation rate in the EU. The proposed hike is open for consultation until March 1. After that, the Commission is free to adopt the regulation. The revised Schengen Visa prices will come into effect 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
