Madhya Pradesh is all set to get the largest tiger reserve in the country. The Sanctuary will be located in the Damoh district of MP and will be set up by combining two already existing sanctuaries. Here are all the important details that you would need to know about this new sanctuary.

Madhya Pradesh To Get Largest Tiger Reserve In The Country

In a move that is being hailed as a significant development, Madhya Pradesh will soon get the largest tiger reserve in the country. This tiger reserve will be situated in the Damoh district of the state. This reserve will be spread across 2,300 square kilometres. According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the focal point of this reserve will be the Jabera area in Daboh.

The sanctuary will be set up by combining two already existing sanctuaries. These are the Nauradehi Sanctuary and the Rani Durgavati Sanctuary. The article also mentions that the officials will try finishing the set-up of the sanctuary in the following two to three months. Once ready, the sanctuary will be an expansive haven for tigers.

Not only will it help boost the population of tigers, which has been dwindling in India for a long time but has relatively stabilised over time now, but will also give an impetus to the local economy. As per MS Uikey, who is the Forest Divisional Officer of Damoh, the current population of tigers in the area is 16.
