An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 rattled San Diego on Monday morning (local time). The US Geological Survey reported the quake’s epicentre was recorded about 4 km south of Julian, in San Diego County. An earthquake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, hit San Diego, California, on Monday. According to the Hindustan Times, the quake struck at 10:08 (local time). The shallow earthquake’s epicentre was in Julian, around 30 km from the US border with Mexico. The depth of the quake was 12 km.

Thankfully, there were no reports of damage or casualties. Visuals of the earthquake in San Diego, rattling shelves and dangling lamp fixtures, were posted on social media.

The earthquake was also felt in Coachella Valley, and many concert-goers reported how scary the experience was. Reportedly, thousands of visitors are currently in the valley to attend Coachella, the annual music festival. However, activities in that area appeared to continue uninterrupted, despite the earthquake.

Another viral video that caught the attention of netizens during the San Diego earthquake was that of a herd of elephants at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The video captured elephants springing into action to protect their young calves. Five African elephants can be seen soaking in the morning sun before the camera shakes, and they run in different directions. Then the older elephants formed a circle to shield the two calves from any possible threats. The herd of elephants remained huddled for several minutes, even after the rocking stopped.
The earthquake was felt from San Diego to Los Angeles, which is about 193 kilometres away. It sent boulders tumbling onto rural roads in San Diego County but caused no injuries or major damage.
