Maharashtra Bhushan Award Ceremony was recently hosted in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar on Sunday. Attended by lakhs of people and Appasaheb Dharmadhikari’s followers, the venue of this event was an open ground of about 306 acres in Kharghar. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended this ceremony on 16 April 2023.

Maharashtra Bhushan Award Ceremony Turned Fatal Due To Unbearable Heat

During the daytime during peak daylight, some attendees started feeling uncomfortable. They felt exhausted from standing in the scorching heat and also experienced dizziness. Lakhs and lakhs of people gathered on the ground to attend the event. People started gathering on the ground to witness the event on Saturday night itself. Though the event began at 11:30 am on Sunday, the place was quite crowded from way before the actual timing of the ceremony. More than 100 felt sick while standing directly under the sun. Many people were even complaining about how they did not get proper water here.

According to a report by CNBC TV18, 13 attendees of the Maharashtra Bhushan Award were rushed to the hospital. They were taken to several hospitals such as Kharghar’s Tata Hospital, Kamothe MGM Hospital, and also some government hospitals in Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and Raigad, as reported by The Indian Express. According to a report by Hindustan Times, Maharashtra CM stated that the state government will take responsibility for the expenses of the hospitals and treating the patients. In fact, he advised the officials about admitting patients to specialised hospitals in case such a situation occurs.

Eleven of them lost their lives unfortunately because of dehydration and heatstroke. Eknath Shinde announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the family members of the ones who lost their lives at the Maharashtra Bhushan Award Ceremony.
