Maharashtra Government Announces Gadchiroli Airport Project
On Tuesday, May 13, the Maharashtra government granted administrative and financial approval of ₹104.48 crore. This approval is for land acquisition linked to the proposed greenfield airport in Gadchiroli. This project is actively backed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This approval covers 311.81 hectares of land, including government, private, and forest land spread across Shirapur Chak, Guruwala, Hirapur, and Rakhi villages.
The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) submitted the proposal for the project, and it was later approved by an empowered committee led by the state chief secretary. This meeting was held on May 8. After this approval, the General Administration Department issued an official announcement to start the project process.

More About The Project Fund
As per the government order, ₹76.99 crore has been sanctioned for 245.75 hectares of private land acquisition. In addition, ₹10.07 crore has been approved for diverting 34.68 hectares of forest land. Also, ₹87.07 crore includes compensation-related provisions for affected landholders. The remaining amount in the airport project fund allocation covers administrative expenses under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, project execution charges, and an estimated 10% cost escalation.
The government has also approved the transfer of 31.38 hectares of land free of cost to MADC. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company has been appointed as the main authority for land acquisition and project implementation. At the same time, the Gadchiroli district collector has been given the responsibility of the acquisition process on the ground.
The latest government order has cancelled an earlier decision issued on December 13, 2024. That earlier plan involved acquiring land in Murkhala, Pulkhal, and Kaneri villages for the same airport project.
