Maharashtra Unveils ₹2,500 Crore Plan To Develop 100 Tourism Circuits & Boost Footfall By 2047

Maharashtra is gearing up to strengthen its tourism ecosystem and emerge as a top travel destination. As part of this push, the state plans to develop 100 tourism sub-circuits across its five divisions, focusing on identifying and enhancing destinations at a more localised level. The move aims to expand tourism and make more spots across the state visitor-friendly. Here’s everything you need to know.

Big Tourism Push For Maharashtra

According to Hindustan Times, Maharashtra plans to develop 100 tourism sub-circuits across its five divisions, with ₹25 crore allocated to each over the next five years. With a total outlay of ₹2,500 crore, the initiative aims to strengthen tourism infrastructure, boost footfall, and create jobs in the coming decade and beyond 2047.

These sub-circuits will focus on specialised tourism themes such as forts, culinary experiences, pilgrimage, and other destination-based offerings. By tapping into its diverse tourism potential, the state hopes to drive economic growth and generate large-scale employment opportunities. With this initiative, Maharashtra hopes to expand its tourism map beyond Pune, Nagpur, Coastal Mumbai, Nashik, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

All You Need To Know About This

To better plan these circuits, the Maharashtra Tourism Board will assess existing gaps in infrastructure, including the number of hotels, tour operators, and other facilities needed to support the initiative.

Beyond this, the state is developing a digital tourism portal that will bring together nearly 100,000 tourism units across Maharashtra. Designed as a one-stop platform, it will offer information on destinations, connectivity, accommodation options, transport services, and tour operators. Around 50,000 units are expected to be onboarded by the end of 2026.
