International passenger flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport are officially set to start from July 15, 2026, marking a key milestone for the airport. Navi Mumbai International Airport To Start International Flights
Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) was built to ease congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The airport began domestic commercial operations in December 2025 and is now all set to start international and cargo operations from July 15, 2026.
According to The Times of India, the operations will be subject to the completion of final regulatory formalities. The initial international operations are likely to focus on short-haul routes, particularly in the Gulf region. Customs authorities have already inspected the airport’s preparedness, and the remaining approvals are currently being processed.

Terminal 2 To Be Redesigned To Serve More Passengers
According to The Times of India, Terminal 2 of the airport is being redesigned to accommodate significantly higher passenger traffic. It was originally planned as a 30-million-passenger terminal, but authorities now plan to expand it into a 50-million-passenger facility. Terminal 2 of Navi Mumbai International Airport will serve as the dedicated international terminal.
Reportedly, nearly half of the terminal’s projected traffic will be international. Moreover, authorities are also considering plans to support future growth in passenger and cargo volumes. Furthermore, there are plans to strengthen multimodal connectivity through Metro Line 8, high-speed rail links, road infrastructure and water transport services to provide seamless access to the airport.
In other news, the Navi Mumbai International Airport was also featured on the list of the World’s Most Beautiful Airports 2026 by Prix Versailles. It was recognised for its lotus-inspired architecture and futuristic design.
