Mahatma Gandhi Statue Disrespected In USA; Indian Embassy Seeks Action

During a protest for farmers of India, in the USA, members of Khalistani separatists disrespected the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The peaceful protest organised by Sikh American youth groups to support farmers was hijacked by Khalistani separatists who came with Khalistani flags, anti-India banners and posters. They leapt on the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Indian Embassy and pasted a poster on the face of the statue. The Indian Embassy in Washington condemned the deed and seeks action from US law enforcement agencies.

Mahatma Gandhi Statue Vandalised In The USA Amid Peaceful Protests Supporting Farmers In India

In view of the vandalism of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the USA by separatist groups, the Indian embassy states “The statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Plaza in front of the Embassy was defaced by Khalistani elements on 12 December 2020. The Embassy strongly condemns this mischievous act by hooligans masquerading as protesters against the universally respected icon of peace and justice.”

Indian Embassy Condemned The Incident & Seeks Action

Apart from draping the face of the statue with a Khalistani flag, another group of separatists hung PM Modi’s picture around the statue. One of the members of this group states to ANI that the vandalism on the Mahatma Gandhi statue took place as a protest for Gandhi’s support for slavery. But the group also raised anti-India and pro-Khalistani slogans amid the peaceful protest for farmers in the USA.

The Indian Embassy strongly condemned the vandalism of the Mahatma Gandhi statue. And also lodged a strong protest with the US law enforcement agencies. This statue of Mahatma Gandhi was actually unveiled by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the year 2000. Now while the Indian Embassy seeks action for the same, farmers from different parts of India continue to protest peacefully for the repeal of farm laws.
