Man Rescued After 5 Days Of Surviving In The Sea Without Food And Water

Rabindranath Das, a fisherman survived in the Bay Of Bengal without any food or water for 5 straight days. He was clinging on to what was called a ‘bamboo stick’ all this time. He floated from West Bengal to Kutubdia in Bangladesh where he was rescued.

He was in the sea for 5 days without any water or food and was just floating with his life jacket. Das said “I can only remember that I was floating. I had the life jacket tucked into my pants. I drank water when it rained.” reports NDTV. He was on board with 14 other people from Kolkata out of which 10 drowned in the coming days, but he somehow managed to remain afloat.

A video of him being rescued by the Bangladeshi crew of the ship MV Jawad was put online. They threw in a rope that was tied to a lifebuoy. After he caught the rope the people on board rejoiced and actually were very happy when he came out of the sea. Rabindranath was instantly provided something to cover and keep him warm.

“We were returning to Chittagong port after loading cargo at Dhamra in Odisha. Near Kutubdia, we noticed someone afloat and decided to rescue him. We first threw a lifebuoy that he could not cling on to. Then, we threw a life jacket that he managed to hold on to,” Shahzada Alam, a crew of the ship MV Jawad that rescued Das, reports Hindustan Times.

He also added that his nephew, Nimai was with him just three hours before he was rescued on the 10th of July. Das was safely returned to Indian High Commission in Bangladesh. He was very weak and had only on rainwater from the rains on July 6th.

Das’ family especially his two kids were happy to see him when he safely returned home. His condition is not good and needs proper rest and treatment to recover.
