McLeodganj’s Major Tourist Area Becomes A Covid Containment Zone; Hotels Remain Closed

McLeodganj has been a favourite spot for any travel enthusiast who loves to explore the rich tapestry of Himachal Pradesh. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has been a dark cloud without much of a silver lining. Now authorities in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district have named the main tourist area in McLeodganj as a Covid containment zone. This has resulted in a closure of offices and hotels in the area. Tourist Spot In McLeodganj, Himachal Pradesh Becomes A COVID-19 Containment Zone

Dharamshala Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Dharamshala, Harish Gajju, declared the main tourist area of McLeodganj as a COVID-19 containment zone after 11 new cases.  Gajju stated to  The Tribune, “No offices and hotels will be opened in the containment zone nor will any construction work be allowed. The people of the area will not be able to leave their houses at other times except in medical emergencies.” This area comes under ward No. 3 of the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation. Hotels & Offices To Remain Closed In McLeodganj’s Containment Zone

The statement issued by SDM states that the police imposed Section 144 of the CrPC to avoid the communal spread. Currently, authorities regulate the entry and exit of the said area. Anyone entering the area must undergo thermal screening. Outsiders would not be allowed into the area without a valid reason. There are also orders to sanitize the entire area, and residents must remain indoors. Locals can only come out for medical emergencies.

It will be tough for tourists to enter as this area was the entrance of Dharamkot and Bhagsunag. Officials imposed restrictions for the second time in McLeodganj.  Earlier, this area was sealed when a Tibetan, who had returned from the US, had died in March this year.
