Following his acceptance on receiving the esteemed Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at IFFI 2023, Michael Douglas is occupied by his family holiday in India. Brihadisvara Temple in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, was his most recent excursion.
The veteran actor shared pics from his spiritual retreat to social media where he is seen praying in the temple alongside his son Dylan and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. The three were spotted posing outside the shrine while wearing garlands. The post was captioned ‘Sightseeing with the best’.
It’s interesting to note that Bollywood star Sameera Reddy had the opportunity to meet with these major Hollywood players while they were in Goa.
About Brihadeeswara Temple:
The temple, located on the Kaveri river, is a Shaivite temple which exhibits Chola architecture. It is part of the “Great Living Chola Temples,” a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 11th-century temple’s original monuments were erected around a moat. It housed sculptures, paintings, and inscriptions largely connected to Shaivism but also Vaishnavism and Shaktism, as well as the main temple, called the gopura, with its massive tower.
The walls that encircle the temple today were built after the 16th century. The temple is home to one of the largest Shiva lingas in all of India as well as a large colonnaded prakara (corridor).

Among the film festivals in Asia is the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which was established in 1952. The festival takes place every year in the western state of Goa. It aims to foster international friendship and cooperation as well as understanding and appreciation of various countries’ film cultures within the framework of their social and cultural ethos.
It also provides a common platform for movie theatres around the globe to showcase the best in film art. The state government of Goa and the National Film Development Corporation of India collaborate to organise the festival.
