A global Microsoft outage has disrupted airport check-in systems across India today. This has resulted in delays and operational issues for several major airlines, including IndiGo and Air India. Passengers faced long queues and inconvenience as the technical glitch impacted routine airport operations.
Microsoft Outage Disrupts Check-In Systems Across Multiple Airports
According to Business Today, a major global system outage struck airports on Wednesday morning, disrupting check-in services and causing flight delays across multiple airports in India. The outage, linked to Microsoft Windows, affected several IT services, including the critical airport check-in systems.
At Varanasi Airport, a notice informed passengers that “Microsoft Windows reports major global outages, affecting IT services and check-in systems.” Seeing this issue, many airlines turned to manual check-in and boarding procedures to ensure smoother operations and passengers comfort.
“Some domestic airlines are currently experiencing operational challenges, which may lead to delays or schedule challenges,” Delhi Airport took to X to confirm the disruption. They further added that the “on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience.”

Airlines Affected By The Outage
So far, IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express, have been affected by the outage, Business Today reported. FlightRadar24 data showed a sharp rise in departure delays at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, hitting Level 4, indicating widespread flight disruptions following the system glitch.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time airport operations have been affected by a Microsoft system outage. In July, a Microsoft 365 outage caused major disruptions at airports worldwide. As for the current issue, there’s no update yet on how long the disruptions will continue.
