There’s quite a bit happening across the GCC this week. Some GCC updates could affect how people pay rent; others may change how workers start new jobs. And then there are big projects taking shape across the Gulf. So, here’s a quick look at five developments making headlines around the region.
5 GCC Updates
1. Dubai Tenants May Finally Get More Payment Flexibility
Paying rent in large upfront chunks has long been part of life for many Dubai residents. But that could become easier for some tenants. The Dubai Land Department has introduced Flexi Rent, a scheme that allows renters to spread payments through monthly, quarterly or half-yearly instalments instead of relying on large cheques. Also, participating landlords may offer additional perks such as grace periods, adjusted payment schedules and fee waivers.
2. UAE Summer Airfares Rise Up To 40%, Prompting Travellers To Rethink Holiday Plans

Anyone searching for summer flights lately has probably noticed the difference. Airfares from the UAE have jumped significantly compared to last year, with some routes seeing increases of up to 40%. Popular destinations such as London, New York and Manila have become noticeably more expensive.
3. Old Dubai Zoo Site Begins Transformation Into 90-Home Community In Jumeirah
The former Dubai Zoo site in Jumeirah is changing once again. The area is being redeveloped into a residential community featuring 90 homes surrounded by landscaped spaces and greenery. But before the homes arrive, passers-by will notice something else. A 710-metre public art display now wraps around the site, celebrating native wildlife and local plant life. For many long-time residents, it’s a nostalgic location that holds decades of memories.
4. Saudi Arabia Is Tightening Health Requirements For Workers
Saudi Arabia has announced a phased programme that will require health and occupational fitness assessments before employees begin new jobs. The checks will initially apply to job applicants before expanding to workers across sectors over time. Employers will need to review medical approvals before workers can officially start. In some situations, employees may be reassigned if health assessments determine they are unsuitable for specific roles.

The project will include homes, office spaces, retail outlets, a luxury hotel and dedicated event facilities.
