Abu Dhabi-based space technology company Space42 has launched Future Space Pioneers, a training programme designed to give Emirati students hands-on experience in space technology, artificial intelligence and other technical fields, well before they graduate into the workforce.
Space42 Wants To Train The UAE’s Next Generation Of Space Scientists
The programme runs for four to 16 weeks, depending on the track, and is open to students in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, AI and data management, along with other technical disciplines. Selection isn’t a formality: candidates are assessed on field of study, minimum GPA requirements and interviews, meaning the cohort is built around students who are already leaning into the field rather than simply curious about it.
The first intake draws from Khalifa University, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence and Zayed University, alongside school pupils selected by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Education and Knowledge. Space42 plans to run two intakes a year, turning this into a recurring pipeline rather than a one-off initiative.
What The Training Actually Looks Like
Participants attend seminars on space technology applications and how AI is used to process large volumes of data, before moving into supervised projects tied to real challenges relevant to Space42 and the wider space sector. The programme also builds in training on problem-solving, collaboration, communication and adaptability, skills that matter as much in a mission control room as they do in a lecture hall. Every participant walks away with a certificate recognised by partner organisations.
The Company Behind The Programme
Space42 was formed in 2024 through the merger of Bayanat and Yahsat, bringing together satellite communications, geospatial data and AI under one roof across its Space Services and Smart Solutions businesses. The company is listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange under the ticker SPACE42, and has been steadily expanding its footprint, including a recent autonomous mobility deal with South Korea’s Autonomous A2Z.
