People visiting Yas Island already have a lot to choose from. Theme parks, concerts, Formula 1 weekends, shopping malls, and beach clubs. It’s become one of those places where something is always happening. Now the island is preparing for something even bigger. Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Sphere Entertainment Co. have confirmed that the first Sphere venue outside the United States will officially be built in Abu Dhabi, with plans to open on Yas Island by the end of 2029.
Abu Dhabi Is Getting A Giant Sphere Venue And Yas Island Could Change Again

The new venue will rise between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, right in the middle of one of the UAE’s busiest entertainment zones.
For many residents, the Las Vegas Sphere has already become instantly recognisable online because of its giant glowing exterior screen that turns into everything from planets to giant emojis. Abu Dhabi’s version is expected to follow the same idea, including the huge LED-covered outer shell known as the Exosphere.
Plans currently mention immersive Emirati cultural experiences and displays featuring local artists, alongside concerts by Arabic and international musicians.
The Sphere Will Sit Between Yas Mall And SeaWorld
People hear “Sphere” and immediately think “music venue”. But the project sounds much bigger than that.
The Abu Dhabi location is expected to host concerts, sports events, conferences, product launches and large entertainment productions using advanced visual and audio technology.
Basically, organisers want it to become an all-purpose events hub rather than a building that only fills during concert nights.
The venue could reportedly hold up to 20,000 people, depending on the setup.
That said, construction alone is expected to cost around USD 1.7 billion. So this is not exactly a small side project for the emirate.

Yas Island Keeps Expanding Faster Than People Expected
Over the last few years, Yas Island has slowly transformed into something much larger than a normal tourist district.
Between Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld and the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the island already pulls millions of visitors annually. There’s also the upcoming Disney resort project, which honestly surprised a lot of people when it was announced.
Officials say the project should also create thousands of jobs once operations begin. Transport and infrastructure upgrades around Yas Island are already being planned too, involving multiple Abu Dhabi authorities and transport agencies.
For many people living in the UAE, the bigger question is probably this: what will Yas Island even look like by 2030?
Because right now, it feels like the island keeps adding another headline every few months.
