According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency, this year, Japan is joining the celebration. Expect spending an evening strolling through the Al-Tawalie district, where the souq has set up its magic. You’re greeted with the warm scent of freshly baked bread, the rhythmic sounds of traditional drums, and the chatter of vendors. You’ll have access to shops selling handmade trinkets to seasonal produce.
Where Saudi Meets Japan
Why is this year special? Because it marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Japan and Souq Al-Mawsim is celebrating this partnership. You’ll witness how beautifully the relationship is represented throughout the space. From lanterns glowing alongside Arabic calligraphy, Saudi spices sitting next to matcha sweets, and artisans from both countries.
Every stall feels like it has a story to tell. Picture Japanese precision and flair meets Saudi passion. Visitors can try on traditional kimonos, learn about Saudi weaving techniques, or just sit back and enjoy the sight of Kyoto-inspired art blending with Najdi architecture.
A Feast For The Senses
If you thought it’s just about witnessing the showcase, hold up! There are streets, serving everything from sushi to kabsa. Guests can participate in live cooking demos, traditional music, and artistic performances. Overall, Souq Al-Mawsim is a full-blown sensory experience for Diriyah’s deep cultural roots.
