Etihad Airways has issued a travel update after Super Typhoon Bavi forced changes to its Abu Dhabi-Taipei route, with one flight rescheduled to leave earlier and another delayed as the powerful storm closes in on Taiwan.
Etihad Reschedules Abu Dhabi-Taipei Flights As Super Typhoon Bavi Nears
The airline said it’s closely tracking weather conditions and warned that further disruption is possible on services between Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport and Taipei Taoyuan International Airport.
Which Flights Are Affected:
- EY899 (Taipei to Abu Dhabi), July 10 — moved to an earlier departure. New timing: departs Taipei 3.40 pm local time, arriving in Abu Dhabi 8.55 pm the same day
- EY898 (Abu Dhabi to Taipei), July 10 — delayed because of the typhoon’s impact on Taipei
- EY899 (Taipei to Abu Dhabi), July 11 — also delayed as a knock-on effect of the EY898 delay
Etihad has flagged that both the July 10 EY898 and July 11 EY899 services may be subject to further changes as the storm develops. Affected passengers are being contacted directly and assisted with rebooking, and the airline is urging all travellers on these routes to keep their contact details up to date so that flight alerts reach them via SMS or email.
Why The Disruption?
Super Typhoon Bavi was tracked southeast of Taiwan on Thursday, with winds easing slightly overnight to just under 200kmph. It’s expected to skirt northern Taiwan before making landfall in China’s eastern Fujian province on Saturday evening. Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration has said it could be the largest storm by size to hit the island since 1987, while AccuWeather has flagged it as potentially the most powerful typhoon in the region since Super Typhoon Kong-rey in 2024. Authorities across Taiwan and Japan have urged residents to prepare for strong winds, flooding, landslides and storm surges.
