People who were unable to leave the UAE earlier this year because of travel disruptions now have a little more breathing room. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has announced a 30-day grace period for affected travellers, allowing them to either sort out their legal status in the country or leave without facing penalties.
UAE Gives A 30-Day Grace Period To Travellers Affected By Regional Disruptions
The window runs from June 10 to July 9, 2026. The decision comes after travel conditions across the region returned to normal, ending the circumstances that had previously prevented many people from leaving the UAE on time. Earlier this year, several travellers found themselves stuck in the UAE after flight suspensions and airspace restrictions disrupted travel plans.
For Many Travellers, This Is A Stress Reliever
Because the situation was outside their control, UAE authorities stepped in and waived overstay fines for affected individuals. That move covered visa holders, exit permit holders and residents whose visas had already been cancelled but who could not leave the country.
Now, with regional stability largely restored, officials say the temporary exemptions are no longer needed. Still, rather than ending the relief measures overnight, authorities have introduced a one-month grace period.
For many people, that means extra time to make arrangements without worrying about immediate penalties.
People Can Stay Or Leave During This Period
The new grace period gives affected individuals two clear options. Those who want to remain in the UAE can use the time to update or change their residency and employment status through the normal legal process. Others who are planning to leave can depart using the existing travel procedures already in place.
The ICP has also clarified that no special applications or preliminary steps are required before taking action during the grace period. That should make the process a little easier for people who may already be dealing with disrupted plans.

A Follow-Up To Earlier Relief Measures
Back in March, the authority introduced special exemptions after airspace closures and flight suspensions affected travel from February 28, 2026, onwards.
At the time, the goal was simple. People should not face financial penalties because of circumstances they could not control. This latest announcement is essentially the next step in that process.
But it also serves as a reminder that affected travellers should act before July 9 if they need to update their status or finalise departure plans. Authorities are encouraging anyone affected by the decision to keep an eye on official communication channels for the latest guidance.
