The Mitron Lounge was shut down on Monday for operating till 6 am in Nehru Nagar. It comes under the Wagle Estate Police Station. Prithvi Shaw, an Indian cricketer, was also there in the lounge until the early hours of the morning.

This happened after social activist Binu Varghese tweeted about it. According to him, at around six in the morning, a few club bouncers physically assaulted some customers over trivial matters. He mentioned in a tweet that it has a special permit to operate in the region where Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde lives until 6 am. Why is this club given a special licence when all orchestra bars, hookah lounges, and family bars close at 1.30 am?

FIR Was Filed After The Tweet

The activist even tweeted ‘Will the State Excise Department take any action against these lounges that flagrantly and carelessly flout the law? Will senior Thane police authorities take any action?’

Soon after the tweet, a first information complaint was filed at Wagle Estate police station under the appropriate provisions of the Indian Penal Code against Abhijit Patil, his associate Abhijit Khorgavkar, the owners of the lounge, and 6 bouncers.

R C Birajdar, an inspector with the state excise department, declared that the lounge had been sealed since it broke government laws and regulations. Additionally, the lounge has been charged with providing alcohol until the morning.

In January 2022, Mumbai Police issued an order banning people from public spaces between 5 pm and 5 am every day during the pandemic. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) permitted restaurants and bars to run at 50 per cent capacity until 1.30 am.
