Mumbai is going through a transition period. With major infrastructure projects underway, its landscape will soon witness huge changes. One of the major infrastructure projects that are ongoing in the city is the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP). Many parts of coastal Mumbai have been taken over by its construction. Marine Drive is one such place. However, one of the major problems of waterlogging during rains. In order to tackle it, dewatering pumps will be installed.
Mumbai Coastal Road Project: Dewatering Pumps To Be Installed
Mumbai recently experienced some pretty heavy rainfall. Owing to these showers, parts of the Marine Drive area experienced waterlogging. This raised concerns regarding waterlogging on the MCRP. Keeping these concerns in mind, dewatering pumps will be installed.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or the BMC recently said that to avoid this very problem of waterlogging, a total of 25 high-powered dewatering pumps will be installed in various places after the inspection is completed.
According to an article recently published by Mumbai Live, a few of these pumps will be installed in places like Charni Road near Taraporewala Aquarium. These pumps will let authorities pump out 2,500 cubic metres of water, as per the statement of a government official.

Waterlogging Issue In July
On the 27th and 28th of July, the city experienced pretty heavy rainfall. During that time, slurry as well as construction stone got stuck and blocked the drainage system. This led to waterlogging on the MCRP.
Following this, officials from the Storm Water Department paid the MCRP site a visit. They advised the MCRP officials to get high-powered dewatering pumps to ensure that the waterlogging issue doesn’t happen again. Hence, the BMC decided to undertake this step.
The MCRP is being built at the cost of ₹12,213 crores. Once ready, it will connect Marine Drive with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The second phase of the project will connect North Versova to Dahisar and is the longest phase of the project.
