Mumbai’s Coastal Road Project Name Revealed, To Be Named After This Great Maratha Warrior King

On Sunday, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde, attended Sambhaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary celebration at the Gateway of India in Mumbai. While talking to the public present at the event, Shinde revealed something important. The name for the anticipated Coastal Road project in Mumbai was revealed. The project will be named after Shivaji’s elder son, the great Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Keep reading for more details on the same.

Mumbai’s Coastal Road Project Name Revealed

The celebration of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary concluded with much enthusiasm and good news. The CM of Maharashtra, while addressing the crowd present for the celebration, said that the new project will be named after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. 

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was the eldest son of Veer Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maharani Saibai. He was the next Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire after his father, who was the first. In the Maratha community, Chhatrapati is the symbol of pride. 

Shinde said that he believes that the upcoming coastal road will be the lifeline of the city of dreams. He further announced the name and also informed us that plans to build a huge statue on the coastal road of the great Maratha warrior are also in the pipeline.

Fadnavis Is Thankful For The Announcement 

The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, expressed his happiness at the announcement. He said that a month ago, on March 16, he had requested that Shinde name this upcoming coastal road after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. 

He thanked Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for accepting his request and announcing this on the birth anniversary of the Maratha warrior. 

Apart from requesting this name, Fadnavis has also dropped two more requests. One is to name the Bandra-Versova sea link after Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The other is to name the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 

The upcoming coastal road is an eight-lane expressway. This project will connect Marine Drive to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli sea link. This project is scheduled to be completed in November 2023.
