China Changes Visa Application Process For Indian Travellers

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China has shared an important update for travellers and professionals travelling to China. From October 26, 2026, the Chinese Visa Application Centre in New Delhi will stop accepting visa applications and consular legalisation requests. According to NDTV, applications for visas for holidays or business trips to China, as well as consular legalisation services, must be submitted directly to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in India.

There is also a change in the service fees. Online visa applications submitted after 5 pm on October 23, 2026, will not have any service charge. However, fees already paid for applications submitted before this deadline will not be refunded.

Where Should You Submit Your Visa Application?

According to NDTV, Chinese officials have also revised the jurisdiction for visa submissions based on applicants’ places of residence. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Applicants in Mumbai and Karnataka will have to submit their applications to the Chinese Consulate General in Mumbai.
  • People in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh will have to temporarily submit their applications to the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi.
  • Applicants in all other Indian states and Union Territories are also required to submit their applications to the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi.

Now, let’s make it simpler for you. Applicants applying for a Chinese visa must first complete the application process online through the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ visa portal. They will have to fill in the application form, upload the required documents and submit everything for an online review. After that, the process will proceed further.
