Varanasi-Kolkata E-way: Soon Travel From Delhi To Kolkata In Just 17 Hours

It takes over a day, which is more than 24 hours, to reach Kolkata from Delhi by road. All those who have travelled this route know how tiring it is. (I am already tired just hearing about it.) But in the next three years, this travel time will be reduced to 17 hours only. Yes, thanks to the proposed Varanasi-Kolkata greenfield expressway. Varanasi-Kolkata E-way To Reduce Travel Time

The upcoming Varanasi-Kolkata greenfield expressway will soon shorten the distance between Delhi and Kolkata. The current distance of 690 kilometres will be reduced to 610 kilometres. The time taken to cover this distance will therefore be reduced by 6-7 hours.

The officials have already approved the plan for the Varanasi-Kolkata greenfield expressway. The expressway is expected to be completed by 2026. The cities that this route will pass through are Mohania, Sasaram, Gaya, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Ramgah, Bankura, Hooghly, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Chatra, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Purulia, Paschim Medinipur, and Howrah.

The estimated cost of constructing this expressway is ₹28,500 crore. The key cities will be connected, which will also help passengers save time and money. A detailed report on the project is still awaited. The demarcation of the land has already been completed.

6-Lanes Access Controlled Expressway

The alignment of the upcoming Varanasi-Kolkata greenfield expressway was approved and finalised in September 2021. Kaushal Raj Sharma said that the initial demarcation has been completed in Chandauli, near Varanasi.

This access-controlled expressway will run for 610 kilometres with six lanes. It is also known as the Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Expressway. This is because it will connect Varanasi to Kolkata via Jharkhand, Ranchi. This expressway will run parallel to NH-19.

The project will connect the NH-16 at Km 610.417 at Uluberia, Howrah District, West Bengal, with the Varanasi Ring Road at Km 00.000 (near Barhuli village). It is a part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana (BMP) programme. (as per Times Now News)
