Sarthak Jangam, a 22-year-old delivery boy, was killed in a terrible accident on Friday night on Appasaheb Marathe Marg in Prabhadevi, Mumbai. The incident happened at around 8:50 PM while Jangam, a resident of Worli Koliwada, was on his way to deliver an order to Sahakari Bhandar in Dadar West.

According to the Hindustan Times reports, Sarthak Jangam was trying to pass a BEST bus going from Chunabhatti to Worli. The bus was moving towards a bus stop on the left side of the road when Jangam made the regrettable decision to try to overtake it from the wrong direction, which was the left. As the bus turned to the left towards the bus stop, he tried to pass by, and sadly, one of the bus’s wheels ran over Jangam.

A 50-year-old Worli Koliwada local named Milind Amburkar saw the incident happen and filed the official police complaint. Amburkar heard a loud thud as BEST bus No. 171 passed by while he was waiting for a bus. After the bus went by, he saw a man lying on the road, blood puddled around him, and a scooter overturned nearby.

Police Registered The Case Against The Bus Driver

The police are currently investigating the incident. Under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (causing death by negligence) and Section 281 (rash or negligent driving), a case has been filed against the bus driver, Hindustan Times reported. The police are working on identifying the bus driver. To make this tragic event even more complicated, initial reports indicate that the driver failed to signal when steering towards the bus stop.

The police have started the process of identifying the bus driver and gathering evidence, as per the latest reports. The community is certainly shaken by the loss of Sarthak Jangam, who was just 22 years old and working diligently to make deliveries. The incident must prompt conversations about road safety, particularly for delivery workers who frequently have to drive on congested roads in a hurry.

Locals and the deceased’s family are currently waiting for more information from the authorities.
