The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, or the MMRDA, is making significant strides in expanding the city’s metro network, with Metro Line 9 emerging as a crucial infrastructure project poised to revolutionise urban transportation in the region. Led by Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, the project is progressing at an impressive pace.

According to an article that was recently published by The Free Press Journal, or the FPJ, the first phase is targeted for completion by the end of the current year. The initial segment will connect Dahisar East to Kashigaon. It will span a critical corridor that extends the existing Metro Line 7.

This particular corridor will be 11.38 kilometres long. In a recent strategic meeting, Dr Mukherjee collaborated with Anil Kumar Saini, Managing Director of Alstom India, to discuss the project’s signalling works and expedite its development.

The discussions centred on compressing project timelines and harnessing global technological expertise to ensure efficient execution. The MMRDA has implemented a robust approach to project management, deploying advanced technologies and assigning dedicated team leaders to each metro corridor.

This strategy aims to enhance coordination and maintain world-class standards throughout the construction process. Metro Line-9 promises to be a transformative addition to Mumbai’s public transport infrastructure. The project is strategically designed with two key phases.

The first phase, running from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, is set to be operational by year-end. The second phase will extend the line to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, further expanding the network’s reach.

The corridor boasts two significant interchange stations that will dramatically improve connectivity. At Dahisar East, commuters will be able to seamlessly connect with Metro Line-7 and Metro Line-2. Meanwhile, the Miragaon station will provide a crucial link to the upcoming Metro Line-10.

Transportation officials are optimistic about the project’s impact. By reducing travel times between Mumbai’s suburbs and Mira Bhayandar, the new metro line is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and promote sustainable urban mobility.
