Hyderabad is known globally for its cuisine, especially iconic dishes like Hyderabadi Biryani, Haleem and Khubani Ka Meetha. But there is one more heirloom sweet from Hyderabad that has remained undiscovered by many foodies in India. RPG’s Harsh Goenka recently posted a picture of Badam Ki Jali on his Instagram, bringing the sweet into the limelight.

Popularised during the Nizami era, Badam Ki Jali is traditionally made by just a few select families in Hyderabad. Made using a paste of blanched almonds, sugar and cardamom, this sweet is typically crafted in a floral-cut and lattice-like design.

Not just that, it also features a delicate sheet of edible silver vark before it is gently baked. Badam Ki Jali is not easily available, and its recipe has been guarded for centuries.

This Sweet Has A Rich, Nutty And Aromatic Flavour

Many people in Hyderabad often make it in small batches for special occasions like weddings, festivals and other family celebrations. Now, you must be wondering about its taste. Rather than having a very sweet taste, Badam Ki Jali has a rich, nutty and aromatic flavour that comes from almonds and cardamom. It’s rich and balanced.

Harsh Goenka ended his post by calling Badam Ki Jali “a beautiful piece of Hyderabad’s culinary history” and mentioned that it deserved to be much better known. He also gave a shout-out to Almond House, a place that offers some amazing Badam Ki Jali. This Hyderabad sweet shop delivers across India.
