Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, visited actor, director, singer, producer, and host Shekhar Suman’s 4-storeyed Parisian home with a sea view. While savouring Macher Jhol cooked by Shekhar himself, Kamiya asked him about the reason behind his iconic talk show Movers & Shakers closing its curtains in 2001.
Shekhar Suman On Movers & Shakers
After Shekhar Suman cooked Macher Jhol for Kamiya Jani, the duo sat down for a delicious meal. The Sunday Brunch episode had Kamiya asking the host why one of India’s most iconic talk shows, Movers & Shakers, ended after entertaining the audiences for years.
“The show never shut down. I left it,” answered Shekhar. He reasons, “It’s because I wanted to evolve and do different things. I was doing it five times a week. If I stuck around, I would only be doing that.” Moreover, Shekhar Suman said that he wasn’t a host. Rather, he was playing the role of a host (on Movers & Shakers).
Hosting different shows needed different techniques. “When people ask me why I left the show, I say, it’s because I was very good at it.” He adds, “When you become very good at something, it’s dangerous. Because you become complacent.” So, as per Shekhar, it was important for him to leave the show for his personal growth and then revisit it with a new skill set.

The Host Is Back With Shekhar Tonite
He clarifies that Shekhar Tonite, his new talk show on YouTube, is not Movers & Shakers. Rather, it’s Shekhar Suman in a new avatar. When it comes to hosting a comedy show in today’s time, the producer-director stressed that it’s necessary to change with the times. Know when to push the envelope, understand when and what to speak.
