“Aapko Lagta Hai Wo Sach Bol Raha Hoga,” Imtiaz Ali Addresses Fun Rumour, Spread By Anurag Kashyap

Some friendships are so old that the insults start sounding like compliments. That was pretty much the energy when Imtiaz Ali found himself at the receiving end of an Anurag Kashyap story during a recent episode of Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani.

Imtiaz Ali was joined by Vedang Raina and Sharvari Wagh, who have both worked with him on Main Vaapas Aaunga. Since a large part of the film’s journey is rooted in Punjab, the episode leaned fully into the Punjaabiyat. The table was loaded with a proper Punjabi spread, conversations bounced between food and filming memories, and for a while it felt like a family lunch where nobody was in a hurry to leave.

Then Anurag Kashyap entered the room without actually entering the room! 

Kamiya Jani, our Editor-in-Chief, had barely begun mentioning something Anurag had once said about Imtiaz when the filmmaker immediately jumped in.

“Don’t believe him.”

Anurag Kashyap Accused Imtiaz Ali Of Stealing The Best Mutton Pieces

The interruption was so quick that it got a laugh before the actual story had even arrived! Once everyone settled down, Kamiya revealed the allegation. According to Anurag, whenever the two shared a meal, Imtiaz had a habit of quietly securing the best mutton pieces for himself.

Now, there are many ways to respond to an accusation involving food. You can deny it, you can explain it and you can blame someone else.

Imtiaz chose violence! 

Without missing a beat, he fired back, “ Jaisi woh filmein banate hain, aapko lagta hai woh sach bol rahe honge?”

The table exploded!  Vedang and Sharvari couldn’t stop laughing, Kamiya was visibly amused, and Imtiaz looked like a man who knew he had landed the punchline exactly where he wanted it.

But he wasn’t done! Building on the joke, he wondered aloud where Anurag gets inspiration for all the wonderfully crooked, unpredictable characters that populate his films. Then came the answer; from himself.

“Woh khud hi waise hain.”

At that point, the conversation had officially left the realm of cinema and entered the territory of two old friends roasting each other from a safe distance.
