Mumbai Coastal Road has pretty much changed the roadmap of the city. To pave the way, widen roads, and make commuting easier on this road, a lot of older paths and roads have been altered over time. One of them is the 1.1-kilometre-long footpath along Marine Drive that was taken for Coastal Road works. Now, as per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), this footpath has been restored for use again.

1.1 Km Footpath Along Marine Drive Restored For Use

The 1.1-kilometre footpath along Marine Drive that was taken by BMC for Mumbai Coastal Road works has been restored for use. The civic body confirmed this update. This means that this south-to-north phase footpath is now available for public use. This stretch extends from GD Somani Chowk to Savitribai Phule Girls Hostel along Marine Drive.

The northbound arm of the Mumbai Coastal Road was inaugurated on June 11. As part of this stretch, the road along Marine Drive has been widened to 10.6 metres between Princess Street flyover to the Mafatlal Club signal. Another 400m road connecting the Princes Street flyover to the Northern ramp of the Coastal Road tunnel has been constructed. The kilometre-long footpath along Marine Drive was taken to construct this road.

As per a report in Times of India, BMC has also added tetrapods to prevent the impact of sea waves hitting this walkway. The report also stated that seating arrangements along the footpath have been made as it had been before. Furthermore, BMC also plans to install street lights to create a good lighting system adjacent to the footpath now.
